These wholesome apple and applesauce muffins are a wonderful addition to your baking repertoire, offering a naturally sweet and moist texture without the need for refined sugar. By using unsweetened applesauce and honey, this vegetarian recipe highlights the warm, comforting flavours of cinnamon and fresh orchard fruit. The use of wholemeal flour provides a subtler nuttiness and extra fibre, making them a more nutritious choice for a morning treat.
Perfect for a quick breakfast on the go or a healthy lunchbox filler, these muffins stay delightfully soft for days. They are incredibly easy to prepare, requiring only two bowls and twenty minutes in the oven. For the best results, use a crisp variety of apple like a Braeburn or Granny Smith to ensure the pieces hold their shape during baking.
