Ingredients for Classic BBQ baked beans
115 g streaky bacon, diced
100 g onion, chopped
1 pepper, chopped
1,200 g kidney beans, drained and rinsed
100 g brown sugar
45 ml ketchup
45 ml apple cider vinegar
45 ml maple syrup
45 ml treacle
45 ml yellow mustard
15 ml hot sauce
10 g Creole seasoning
How to make Classic BBQ baked beans
Preheat the grill to high.
Place a large casserole dish or cast-iron pot over direct heat and cook the bacon until the fat begins to render.
Add the onion and red pepper, cooking until they start to soften, about 3–5 minutes.
Stir in the beans, including their liquid, and bring to a simmer.
Add the brown sugar, ketchup, apple cider vinegar, maple syrup, molasses, mustard, hot sauce, and Creole seasoning, stirring to combine.
Close the lid and cook the beans until the liquid thickens, about 60 minutes.
Cover the pot and transfer it to the cooler side of the grill, cooking for an additional 20–30 minutes or until you reach your desired tenderness.
