Salami Chips with Grainy Mustard Dip

These savoury salami crisps with a tangy mustard dip offer a sophisticated alternative to traditional bagged snacks. By oven-baking thinly sliced salami until the fat renders down, you create a satisfyingly brittle and salty crisp that pairs beautifully with a creamy accompaniment. The dip, which combines smooth mayonnaise and soured cream with the sharp heat of Dijon and whole-grain mustards, cuts through the richness of the meat for a perfectly balanced bite.

This diabetes-friendly recipe is an excellent choice for those seeking a high-protein, low-carbohydrate appetizer that doesn't compromise on flavour. Preparation is remarkably simple, making it a reliable option for weekend entertaining or a quick evening snack. For the best texture, ensure the crisps have cooled entirely before serving alongside the chilled dip, perhaps garnished with a few fresh chives if you have them to hand.

Ingredients for Salami Chips with Grainy Mustard Dip

  • 60ml soured cream

  • 60ml top-quality mayonnaise

  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard

  • 2 tablespoons grainy mustard

  • 230g thinly sliced salami

How to make Salami Chips with Grainy Mustard Dip

To make the dip, stir together the soured cream, mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, and grainy mustard in a small serving bowl. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate until you are ready to serve, ideally at least 2 hours.

Preheat the oven to 191°C. Line 2 rimmed baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone baking mats. Set 2 oven racks at the centermost positions.

Lay the salami slices out in a single layer on the baking sheets. Bake until they are evenly browned and rigid, 10 to 12 minutes. Transfer to paper towels to drain and cool. The salami will crisp further as it cools.

Arrange the salami chips in a bowl or on a plate, with the dip alongside.
