Prunes in Crispy Bacon

These prunes in crispy bacon, often known as devils on horseback, are a timeless addition to any party platter or festive spread. This dairy-free snack offers a sophisticated balance of flavours, pairing the natural chewiness and sweetness of soft dried prunes with the salty, savoury crunch of grilled streaky bacon. They are incredibly simple to prepare, requiring just three ingredients and minimal effort, making them a reliable choice for effortless entertaining or a quick evening treat.

While they are a classic Christmas canapé, these bite-sized morsels are delicious served year-round alongside a glass of chilled dry cider or as part of a tapas-style selection. The high heat of the oven helps the bacon fat render until perfectly crisp, while the prunes become warm and jammy. For the best results, ensure you use pitted prunes to make them easy for your guests to enjoy in one delicious mouthful.
