Can I take Naproxen bp and Shortec together?

Drug interaction guide

Taking naproxen and Shortec (oxycodone) together can increase the risk of side effects such as drowsiness, dizziness, and confusion. There is also a higher risk of stomach irritation or ulcers if these are used long-term, though they work in different ways to relieve pain.

Why this happens

Naproxen is an anti-inflammatory (NSAID) and Shortec is an opioid. While they do not directly interfere with how the body breaks each other down, their sedative effects can add together (additive effect). Additionally, both can occasionally cause stomach upset.

What you should do

It is generally safe to take these together if prescribed by your doctor, as they are often used together for stronger pain relief. However, you should be careful when driving or using machinery until you know how the combination affects you. Avoid alcohol, as it will make the drowsiness much worse. If you develop severe stomach pain or black, tarry stools, stop taking them and contact a doctor immediately.
