El NF2 gene provides instructions for the production of a protein called merlin, also known as schwannomin. This protein is made in the nervous system, particularly in specialized cells called Schwann cells that wrap around and insulate nerves.
Normal function
El NF2 gene provides instructions for the production of a protein called merlin, also known as schwannomin. This protein is made in the nervous system, particularly in specialized cells called Schwann cells that wrap around and insulate nerves.
Merlin helps regulate several key signaling pathways that are important for controlling cell shape, cell growth, and the attachment of cells to one another (cell adhesion). This protein functions as a tumour suppressor, preventing cells from growing and dividing too fast or in an uncontrolled way.

In fewer than 1 in 10 people, an acoustic neuroma is caused by neurofibromatosis type 2 (NF2). NF2 is a very rare genetic disorder that causes non-cancerous (benign) tumours of the nervous system. People with NF2 can also develop benign tumours.

Cáncer de mama
If cáncer de mama es diagnosticados at an early stage, less treatment may be needed and it is more likely to be effective. In general, the more advanced the cancer (the more it has grown and spread), the less chance that treatment will be curative. However, treatments are improving all the time and they can often slow the progress of the cancer. Breast.

Cáncer de hígado primario
En secondary liver cancer, el cancer spreads from another part of the body to the liver. In the UK, most cases develop as a complication of scarring of the liver (cirrhosis). Surgery to remove the cancer is an option in a small number of cases and, if it is possible, gives the best chance of a cure. In the UK, primary liver cancer is uncommon..

Cáncer de riñón
If cáncer de riñón is diagnosed at an early stage, there is a good chance of a cure. Renal cell cancer This type of cancer develops from a cell in a kidney tubule, which becomes cancerous (malignant). The cancer grows and forms into a tumour within the kidney. As the tumour grows: The affected kidney tends to become larger. In time the tumour may.

Pólipos nasales
Pólipos nasales son fleshy swellings that grow inside the nose or sinuses. They are usually non-cancerous (benign). The most common symptoms they cause are a stuffy, runny nose. Gotas nasales con esteroides are commonly used to shrink the polyps. Surgical removal of polyps is sometimes needed. Nasal polyps often return after treatment, so steroid nasal sprays.

Opciones de tratamiento vary, depending on the tipo de cáncer and how far it has grown and spread. The main types are surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
