What is a chalazion? | Patient Explainers

A chalazion is a common condition affecting the eyelid and is caused by a blockage of a gland in the eyelid. The swelling (cyst) is usually felt as a small lump. Rarely, it can become infected. If it is causing problems and does not settle on its own, it can be treated with an injection or removed with a small operation. Find out more: /health/swollen-eyelid/chalazion
