Ingredients for Garlic cheddar biscuits
330 g plain flour
15 g baking powder
2.5 g garlic powder, plus an extra 1.25 g (optional)
3 g salt
225 g white vegetable fat (e.g. Trex)
240 ml buttermilk
120 g grated cheddar cheese
30 g butter, melted
How to make Garlic cheddar biscuits
Preheat the oven to 220°C (fan) or 230°C (conventional).
In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, ½ teaspoon of garlic powder, and salt.
Using a pastry cutter or two forks, cut in the shortening until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs.
Add the buttermilk and cheese with a fork, then stir until a soft dough forms.
Drop spoonfuls of the dough (about 60 ml each) onto a greased baking tray.
In a small bowl, combine the butter and the remaining ¼ teaspoon of garlic powder (if using); brush this mixture over the tops of the biscuits.
Bake for 10–12 minutes, or until golden brown.
