Both omega-3 (fish oil) and turmeric have natural blood-thinning properties. Taking them together might increase the risk of bruising or bleeding, especially if you are already prone to bleeding or are planning to have surgery.

Why this happens
Omega-3 fatty acids help prevent blood cells (platelets) from sticking together, while curcumin (the active part of turmeric) can also slow down blood clotting. When used together, these effects can add up, making your blood take longer to clot.
What you should do
Back to contentsFor most healthy people, taking standard doses of both is usually fine. However, you should be cautious if you notice unusual bruising, frequent nosebleeds, or bleeding gums. Stop taking both at least two weeks before any scheduled surgery or dental work. If you are already taking prescribed blood thinners (like warfarin or aspirin), speak to your doctor before combining these supplements.
