Taking Losec (omeprazole) and nicorandil together may increase the risk of developing serious ulcers or sores in the digestive tract, particularly in the stomach or bowel. While Losec is often used to protect the stomach, there have been reports of unusual ulceration when used alongside nicorandil.

Why this happens
Nicorandil is known to occasionally cause 'nicorandil-induced ulceration' in various parts of the body. The exact reason why taking a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) like Losec might complicate this is not fully understood, but it may involve changes in the protective lining of the gut or a delay in recognising the symptoms of an ulcer.
