Why this happens

Gabapentin works on the nerve signals to treat nerve pain, while paracetamol works in the brain and spinal cord to reduce general pain and fever. They are processed by the body through different pathways (gabapentin via the kidneys and paracetamol via the liver), so they do not interfere with each other's levels in the blood.

You can safely take these medicines together as prescribed. Always follow the dosage instructions on the packaging or as directed by your doctor. If you feel unusually drowsy or dizzy, avoid driving or using tools until you feel better.

Severe breathing problems or lung disease

This medicine can cause serious, life-threatening breathing difficulties, especially if you already have lung disease or are elderly. Seek immediate medical help if you experience shallow breathing or extreme sleepiness.

Mental health disorders

A small number of people taking this medicine have had thoughts of harming or killing themselves. You must tell your doctor immediately if you notice any sudden changes in your mood or suicidal thoughts.

Dairy products and high-calcium foods

While these provide calcium, consuming very large amounts of dairy alongside calcium supplements can increase the risk of 'milk-alkali syndrome'. Stick to a normal, balanced diet.

Spinach, rhubarb, and whole-grain cereals

These foods contain oxalic acid or phytic acid, which can prevent your body from absorbing calcium properly. Avoid taking your Helpcal tablet within 2 hours of eating these foods.

Caffeine (Coffee, tea, and cola)

High intake of caffeine can slightly reduce calcium absorption and increase the amount of calcium lost in your urine. Try to limit caffeine intake or space it away from your dose.

Alcohol

Chronic excessive alcohol consumption can interfere with how your body processes Vitamin D and absorbs calcium, which may weaken your bones over time.
