Why this happens
Citalopram is an antidepressant (SSRI) and magnesium is a mineral. They do not typically interfere with each other's absorption or effectiveness. There is a theoretical, very minor risk that extremely high magnesium levels could influence heart rhythms, which citalopram can also affect, but this is not a practical concern for most people taking standard supplements.
