Why this happens

Aprokam (cefuroxime) is injected directly into the eye in a very small dose during cataract surgery. Because it acts locally and is used as a single dose, it does not reach high enough levels in the bloodstream to interfere with how atorvastatin is processed by the liver or how it works in the body.

You can safely continue taking your atorvastatin as prescribed if you are undergoing eye surgery involving Aprokam. Always ensure your eye surgeon is aware of all medications you are taking.
