Why this happens

Amitriptyline is known to lower the 'seizure threshold', meaning it makes it slightly easier for a seizure to occur. Evening primrose oil contains chemicals that may also lower this threshold. When used together, these effects can add up, making a seizure more likely.

You should speak to your doctor or pharmacist before taking evening primrose oil if you are prescribed amitriptyline. If you have a history of epilepsy or seizures, it is generally recommended to avoid evening primrose oil while taking this medication. If you decide to take both and experience any unusual jerking movements, confusion, or loss of consciousness, seek medical help immediately.
