Combining alcohol with citalopram can make you feel much more drowsy, dizzy, and uncoordinated than usual. It can also impair your judgement and reaction times. Furthermore, alcohol can worsen the symptoms of depression or anxiety that the citalopram is being used to treat.

Both alcohol and citalopram affect the central nervous system. When taken together, they have an 'additive effect', meaning they enhance each other's sedative properties. Alcohol can also interfere with the way your brain uses serotonin, which is the chemical citalopram is designed to balance.
What you should do
