Why this happens

Both zopiclone and zolpidem belong to a group of medicines called 'Z-drugs'. They work in the same way by slowing down activity in the brain to help you sleep. Taking both at once creates an 'additive effect', meaning the sedative impact is doubled, which can overwhelm the central nervous system.

You should not take these two medicines together. They are both intended to treat the same condition (insomnia), and taking both increases the risk of overdose and serious side effects. If you find that one is not working for you, speak to your doctor about adjusting your treatment rather than combining them. Do not drive or operate machinery if you have taken both.
