Can I take 150 and Zigduo together?

Drug interaction guide

Taking aspirin (75mg to 150mg) with Xigduo (which contains dapagliflozin and metformin) can increase the risk of your blood sugar dropping too low (hypoglycaemia). It may also increase the risk of a rare but serious condition called lactic acidosis, where too much acid builds up in your blood.

Why this happens

Aspirin can slightly lower blood sugar levels on its own, which adds to the effect of the diabetes medicines in Xigduo. Additionally, both aspirin and the metformin in Xigduo can affect how your kidneys work and how acid is processed in the body, which can occasionally lead to a buildup of metformin or acid in the blood.

You should speak to your doctor before taking these together. If your doctor has prescribed both, monitor your blood sugar levels closely. Learn to recognise signs of low blood sugar (such as sweating, shakiness, and hunger) and lactic acidosis (such as unusual muscle pain, trouble breathing, or feeling very weak). It is best to avoid or strictly limit alcohol while taking these medicines, as alcohol increases the risk of both low blood sugar and lactic acidosis.
