Why this happens

Both mirtazapine (Zispin) and venlafaxine (Venladex) work by increasing the levels of serotonin in the brain. When used together, the effect is 'additive', meaning they can push serotonin levels too high for the body to handle safely.

You must speak to your doctor before taking these two medicines together. While doctors sometimes prescribe this combination for difficult-to-treat depression (sometimes called 'California Rocket Fuel'), it must only be done under strict medical supervision.
