When both are taken together, the blood flow to the kidneys can drop too low, and the blood pressure-lowering effect of valsartan is reduced.

You should avoid taking ibuprofen while on valsartan unless your doctor specifically tells you to. If you need pain relief, paracetamol is usually a safer choice, but you should still limit your alcohol intake when taking it. If you have already taken both, watch for signs of kidney trouble like swollen ankles or changes in how much you urinate, and contact your doctor.
