Can I take Quinine and Shortec together?

Why this happens

Quinine can interfere with the way your liver breaks down oxycodone (by affecting an enzyme called CYP3A4). This causes the oxycodone to stay in your system longer and reach higher levels. Additionally, both drugs can slow down the central nervous system, leading to a combined (additive) effect on your breathing and alertness.

What you should do

You should speak to your doctor before taking these two medicines together. If your doctor confirms you need both, they may need to adjust your dose. Seek immediate medical help if you experience extreme drowsiness, confusion, shallow breathing, or if you find it difficult to wake up.
