Can I take Lipitor and Mirtazapine together?

Why this happens

Lipitor and mirtazapine are processed by different pathways in the liver. Lipitor is primarily broken down by an enzyme called CYP3A4, while mirtazapine is processed by several different enzymes (CYP2D6, CYP1A2, and CYP3A4). Because mirtazapine does not strongly block or speed up the enzymes that Lipitor relies on, it does not significantly change the levels of Lipitor in your blood.

What you should do

You can take these medicines together as prescribed by your doctor. As with any statin (like Lipitor), you should always report any unexplained muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness to your doctor, but this risk is not increased by taking mirtazapine.
