Why this happens

Shortec (oxycodone) slows down the movement of the digestive system. Lactulose works by drawing water into the bowel to soften the stool and stimulate movement, effectively reversing the constipating effect of the painkiller.

What you should do

It is safe and often necessary to take these together. If you are taking Shortec regularly, you should take your lactulose as directed by your doctor to prevent constipation. Ensure you drink plenty of water.
